Depression and Social Anxiety- The New Trend?

Listened to this podcast the other day and they randomly brought up something that made me think.

So many people today keep talking about social anxiety and depression, and it just seems like we’re all lost in what it really means and how serious it is. Nervousness is actually being mistaken for social anxiety. Sad and tough days, months and times are being seen as depression. Life isn’t supposed to be easy and I don’t think the first thought should be to diagnose yourself. There can (and should be, I think personally) hard times in your life. How did life turn into a bunch of diagnoses? I don’t think it’s difficult to find the answer. Hearing people throw these diagnoses around like it’s nothing can actually make you think that there might be something more to what your feeling, because of course – what you are feeling is important, but it doesn’t mean you have something more affecting you than just life itself.

There’s so many feelings and other sides to life than just happiness, bliss and motivation. Did we somehow forget these last years that nervousness can make your stomach hurt, hands shake and even make you forget everything you just did and say? Did we forget life comes with ups and downs, you can’t just expect one bad day – it’s very possible there will be more, or did we just never realise this until people started being open about depression? And finally we could explain our lack of motivation, not getting up from our beds and the bad year we had? We’re so focused on talking about what’s wrong with us and rather than telling other people why we are feeling like that, we talk about the diagnosis that makes us feel like that, but when are we going to realise the focus should be elsewhere? It should be on you and you understanding yourself. If you need to talk to someone you should, if you need a break take it – but feel your feelings and work on you the best you can, you don’t always need a diagnosis for the tough times and the tough situations.

Trust me, I do know that depression and anxiety is very real. I don’t want you to think anything else. I have had low times, but never depression. Anxiety on the other hand, I have experienced throughout my childhood as most of you guys know. It’s not like I judge every person saying they suffer from anxiety because it’s not the same as what I went trough, and I think being open and honest about our struggles is a very positive part of our generation. I still strongly feel like all the labels and diagnoses are too much the center of attention. If we just started being honest about how we feel and where we are in our lives emotionally I think it could change so much for all of us. We could stop questioning if our feelings are not serious enough, or too serious, and just be more open about the struggles we go through as a part of life.

Your feelings, your life and your mental health should be your number one priority – nothing is wrong, too much or too little… Work with yourself, figure our how you can help yourself – and even if that means receiving help and support from others in order to feel better, that’s what you need to do ❤

OUR FIRST HOME IN SYDNEY!

Yesterday we finally booked a place to stay for the beginning of our Sydney journey, and I couldn’t be more happy! I’m soooo excited and it all feels a lot more real now. It’s getting closer and closer to the leaving date, and soon I’ll be going home to spend some time with my mom – before I come back to Oslo and start the looong trip to Sydney with Dan. Then we finally meet Caitlin and our adventure begins. It’s going to be amazing!

I wanted to show you guys some of the pictures from the place we have chosen – we’re so happy with it and all the hard work in Oslo has definitely paid off ❤

My Best Workout Tips

  • Find your own thing! Cardio, weights? Intervals, powerwalks, crossfit? I used to only do cardio (mostly because modeling had gone to my head), but now I’ve realised how much I love weight lifting. I also love intervals or running outside to clear my head. It always helps! But it needs to be outside, if not I just find it way too boring.

  • If you’re feeling super annoyed, angry, frustrated or sad – put on some power music and get to the gym to do your favourite exercises. I always feel like it in some way gives me my strength and power back. I can go back home, take a nice shower, put on some cozy clothes and think new thoughts with a much clearer head.

  • Good music or podcasts! Sometimes I want music that makes me give that last push, but somedays I get bored so easily and it can be more of a struggle to go – that’s when I love my podcasts. I usually listen to true crime, and having something interesting to listen to as I make my way to the gym and also do my exercises makes it so much easier on a more slow and unmotivated day.

  • Try new exercises! Ohhh so many times have I gone into a pattern of just doing the same things over and over… You get so bored. Trying new things is always a good idea, and it can easily make you go more often and generally do more work at the gym. Or outside. I find that if you look up the right pages on Instagram you can get some good, new ideas!

  • Consistency. If you want results, you can’t just do some sort of exercise once a week every month. It does take some dedication and discipline. The main thing for working out should be staying healthy, but even with that there’s many of us that keeps on saying “I don’t have time”.  You need to plan. Sometimes it might take an early morning or a late night to just get it done. Or if you don’t want to spend the morning or evening at the gym, it might take you putting your gym clothes in your bag for after work. Or that you get up from that couch one hour earlier instead of laying there with your phone in your hand, just scrolling.

  • It needs to be healthy. Too healthy can quickly get very unhealthy. I know. And I know a lot of you guys know. If you’re stressing too much about it, if you feel like you’re losing yourself in any way or that you’re just not okay with the whole food, gym, healthy, strong thing – then stop. Stop and talk to someone who will be there for you to listen and help you out. It should be something you do for the health of your body and mind, it should never go the other way ❤ That will never make you happy. It’s so important to not exclude the life you love to live just because you exercise. Pizza, snacks and lazy days are still so important.

Here’s a few bts pictures from today’s shoot! So nice that the photographer wanted to have a shoot with us both. We went to a really cool location as well – I love it when I get to see new places during a photoshoot. I saw a new part of Oslo, and sooo many nice houses. Impossible not to daydream walking around there.

I’m so excited so see and also to show you guys the pictures, so stay tuned ❤

Berlin Pictures

Tomorrow morning I’ll be taking the earliest flight back to Oslo after a few days in Berlin. Thought I would share some photos from the days, mostly of food, but that’s because they have amazing vegan options here! Makes me so happy ❤️ I’ll also be leaving Berlin with two more tattoos than when I came here, I’ll show you really soon!
